By the time Cassie Nygren was halfway through high school, she was taking Oxycontin on a daily basis. It helped her fill the void she felt after giving her daughter up for adoption, and she told herself as long as she wasn’t using heroin, she was fine.
“I felt numb, and I liked it,” she said.
